Towards interventionist research with theoretical ambition

A distinct strength of interventionist research (IVR) is the ability to establish particularly good access a partner organization and collect exceptionally detailed information, which may not be available researchers who employ other approaches. Yet, challenge IVR exploit this data-gathering opportunity in full, order develop theoretical contribution. We propose ‘theoretical focus driven’ mode (TFD mode) as ‘way working’ for research, whereby chosen (yet potentially flexible) drives project. The researcher invests extra time up-front thoughtfully generate explicate questions focus. These guide selective purposeful effort, well nature intervention. At same time, remains inspired by field work open changes Indeed, TFD process tends iterative, since it affected only characteristics abductive theorising, but also changing priorities target organization, thereby initial can become empirically unfeasible. Overall, rather than building on researcher’s enthusiasm innovative themes practice, casting broad net data gathering, capitalises potential strengthening ambition.
